Ms. Linda Rimac Colberg
Linda Rimac Colberg is a professional writer who has designed a career spanning more than thirty-five years helping businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations share their stories and advance their missions through the written and spoken word. While her focus is marketing communication and public relations, she is also the published author of three books about Contra Costa County’s iconic Mount Diablo.
Active in civic and community affairs, Linda works with local organizations associated with education, business, the arts, the environment, and homelessness. She is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Contra Costa (LCC), an eight-month program, presented by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce, designed to identify and prepare potential leaders who want to make a difference in their communities; and co-founded the Leadership Contra Costa Alumni Association in 2011, designed to continue the Leadership experience and build community among LCC graduates. She served on the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors from 2008-2018, and served as Board Chair for the 2016-2017 term. She is a 2009 graduate of Walnut Creek’s Citizens Institute and was named 2018 Walnut Creek Citizen of the Year for her history of volunteerism and leadership roles in service to others.
Linda joined Yours Humanly to do what she can to promote access to education by spreading the word and educating the public about the mission, the activities, and the achievements of the organization. A skilled writer, connector, and influencer, Linda actively participates in Yours Humanly outreach, fundraising, and governance.
Ms. Jennifer Trumpp
Jennifer Trumpp, an alumna of the University of San Francisco, is a product manager overseeing the consumer loan product portfolio at Patelco Credit Union. She has a strong background in financial services and years of experience in the banking industry, having begun her career in banking as a teller at a large San Francisco-based financial institution. Her strengths are borne out in her problem solving and communication skills, and the patience and compassion she employs with every anxious applicant who is navigating the loan process.
The constant in Jennifer’s life since the age of 11 has always been her volunteerism and her unwavering desire to help people who need our help the most. She believes everyone deserves a fair chance in life and puts in countless hours and effort to help however, wherever she can through a variety of volunteer and community service activities.
Jennifer currently volunteers with Junior Achievement, teaching financial education to first and fourth graders at Title I schools. She also volunteers in a variety of capacities with Team Rubicon, a disaster and humanitarian organization.
Jennifer previously volunteered with Team RWB (Red, White & Blue), whose mission is to enrich the lives of America’s military veterans by connecting them to their community and helping them integrate back into civilian life through physical and social activity. She served the Communication Director for Solano and Contra Costa County.
Jennifer recognizes all too clearly the disparity in educational opportunities for children both here, in the United States, and around the world. She is greatly moved by the disadvantages children suffer when they don’t have access to a decent and proper education. She joined the Yours Humanly Board of Directors to advocate for the organization and advance its mission to as many individuals and businesses as she can.
“I welcome the opportunity to be a part of this journey and this mission with Yours Humanly.”
Mr. Kevin Hennessy
Kevin Hennessy has been providing his Farmers Insurance customers with professional, knowledgeable, and sound advice since 2003. Immersed in the financial world, Kevin has an exceptional aptitude for numbers and finances, helping people protect what they have and build what they want. He brings that vision and financial acumen to the Yours Humanly Board of Directors.
Kevin is also passionately involved with his local community, serving on the Greater Concord (CA) Chamber of Commerce from 2012 to 2018, where he sat on the Executive Committee for four years and served as Board Chair 2016-2017.
Believing in the importance of the education experience, Kevin has spent many years supporting public schools and school children. In 2010, he joined the board of the United Mt. Diablo Athletic Foundation, an organization founded to fundraise for school athletics. He served as board president from 2012-2015, and VP from 2011-2012. Kevin is co-founder and past president of the Valhalla Elementary (Pleasant Hill, CA) Dads Network, a volunteer group organized to provide badly needed campus and classroom maintenance. The group founded Make a Difference Day in 2002, which brought children and parents together to work on maintenance projects around the school, and organized a Dads Maintenance Day for dads alone, who combined their abilities and power tools to build classroom supplies and resources, such as custom-designed cubbies.
Kevin was named the Greater Concord Chamber 2010-2011 Volunteer of the Year, and the Chamber’s 2014 Small Business of the Year—a recognition for which he was additionally acknowledged by the East Bay Leadership Council at its 2014 Small Business Awards ceremony.
Kevin believes we need to level the playing field for children in the United States and around the world, and the best way to empower children is through education, the foundation of their development. Because Kevin believes in building strong local communities, Yours Humanly is a natural fit for his business and leadership skills and his volunteer spirit.
Citing the pebble in the pond metaphor, Kevin suggests, “If everyone dropped just one small pebble in the pond toward the betterment of children, think how powerful that ripple would be.”
Ms. Ila Awasthi Jain
Ila Awasthi Jain is a software engineer and Salesforce professional at Texas Health & Human Services, customizing the Salesforce Platform to manage data, maintain security standards, and automate technology solutions in support of users. With a master’s in computer science, Ila is deeply immersed in technology, with a career that spans project management overseeing teams of IT professionals, and working independently on projects that require her specific expertise.
Ila co-founded and was president of Ethnopia, a media company focused on bridging cultural gaps. Through Ethnopia, she organized and hosted a two-day educational and inspirational world festival in 2005 in Austin designed to introduce attendees to the many cultures that make up American society and to experience and celebrate America’s rich diversity.
Greatly affected by the conditions she witnessed as a young girl growing up in India, Ila has long been ruled by her heart. She first volunteered for and then joined the board of Yours Humanly with an innate desire to transform lives of impoverished children via access to quality education. She brings a deep sense of commitment to this cause and an unflinching determination to help society at large.
Initially, as Director of the Texas Chapter, Ila was successful in increasing awareness of Yours Humanly throughout Austin and other Texas communities to encourage volunteerism and sponsorships. Today, Ila is the Director of Global Partnerships, overseeing the country directors working for Yours Humanly in Cambodia, Haiti, India, Nepal, and the Philippines. Through this global reach, she is working to establish dialogues and build international partnerships that will benefit the children served by Yours Humanly.
“If you want to make a difference in the life of a child, you have to be actively involved—it’s not enough to just think it or wish it. You have to take responsibility and work hard toward accomplishing the goals and growing the organization. This is why I joined the Yours Humanly board—to take responsibility and give back.”
Ms. Rhea Johnson
Rhea Johnson is Director of Partnership Development for Alliant International University, which prepares post graduate students for professional careers of service and leadership around the world. Rhea is responsible for doing outreach for Alliant’s School of Psychology—building relationships and fostering partnerships with businesses, institutions of higher education, and the public at large to share information about Alliant academic program offerings and careers in mental health. She has worked in education outreach in a variety of leadership roles for close to 20 years.
Rhea has highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, which serve her well as she regularly meets with prospective and existing partners, collaborating to help organizations develop their talent through education and help students fulfill their educational goals—transferable skills that she uses as a board member of Yours Humanly. She is a 2018 graduate of Leadership Contra Costa, an eight-month program, presented by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce, designed to identify and prepare potential leaders who want to make a difference in their communities.
Rhea is deeply involved in service to others through faith-based volunteerism and leadership. Among other projects with great impact, she has helped her church grow a small, local shoe giveaway, which began in her church’s parking lot, to become the largest fall Back to School Shoe Giveaway event in San Francisco’s East Bay. She also works closely with fellow church parishioners to serve community members in need, including distributing toiletries, items of clothing, and other resources to homeless individuals living in encampments to help them move forward.
A compassionate supporter of the human spirit, Rhea is a strong believer in personal potential. She was drawn to Yours Humanly because of its mission to help children—with a focus on underprivileged children—get the education they deserve. She uses her abilities to network, collaborate, and secure resources to further the Yours Humanly mission and help children excel in their space and succeed in the world through education.
“Although I know that leadership is important, I also believe it’s important to know about service. I think every great leader has to be a great server. If you can lead with a service heart, you can do great things and that’s what I intend to do.”
Ms. Vangie Long
Vangie Long is the Founder and CEO of Elevents Group LLC, a corporate meeting and events company she launched in 2015. Prior to starting her own business, Vangie worked at the San Francisco Stock Exchange and Bank of America, where she was a corporate client representative handling Fortune 500 companies. With a degree in economics and more than 25 years experience in both the financial and hospitality industries, Vangie is an expert, well-connected project and financial manager who pays keen attention to goals, results, and the customer experience.
Vangie has been active in her community for more than twenty years in a variety of capacities, spending much of her volunteer time in nonprofit leadership roles, leading project teams and chairing fundraising campaigns to create and foster safe and optimal environments for children and teens so they can achieve their potential. She has worked one-on-one with students in their classrooms, served as PTA president in several schools, fundraised for her church and the Boys & Girls Club, and has worked closely with the Lafayette Unified School District, Acalanes Union High School District, and Lafayette Partners In Education (formerly Lafayette Arts and Science Foundation). Vangie knows how to network with leaders in all industries and across all levels.
As a young Filipino who immigrated to the United States more than 40 years ago, Vangie truly appreciated her unlimited access to quality education. Early on, she developed a desire to give back by working with organizations that focused on education. Especially keen to work for underprivileged children, Vangie found the perfect fit with Yours Humanly. Today, she is fully immersed in education working on behalf of children and ensuring there is equity in educational resources and opportunities.
She is honored to join Yours Humanly and continue her support in promoting access to education, especially for disadvantaged children around the world. As Board Member, Vangie is fostering relationships with like-minded nonprofit partners and for-profit businesses seeking to fulfill their social responsibility commitments.
Mr. Sunny Singh
Sunny Singh, Yours Humanly Founder, President & CEO, believes that education is a basic human right. Growing up in India, Sunny witnessed firsthand, every day—at a very young age—the impact poverty and illiteracy have on families and their ability to provide for their children’s health and education. These experiences and life-long memories moved Sunny to choose to make a difference in the lives of children. To honor his commitment, Sunny created Yours Humanly in 2013. Today he works tirelessly, empowering disadvantaged children and brightening their lives through the power of education.
Sunny moved to the United States in 1992, graduated with a business degree in finance and international marketing in 1997, and enjoyed much success as a California entrepreneur before turning his full-time attention to nonprofit leadership when he founded Yours Humanly. His drive and devotion are fueled by the value he places on his own educational opportunities and the shared responsibility he feels to help the world’s most vulnerable children.
Sunny has seen great sadness and hopelessness in the eyes of children in need, and he has seen great joy and happiness when a child’s life is touched with a helping hand and a path toward an educated life. Leading by example, Sunny believes in giving no less than 100% to a promise. Since 2013, he has traveled extensively through the United States and to Cambodia, Haiti, India, Nepal, and the Philippines to personally meet the children—and their families, guardians, teachers, and school administrators—served by Yours Humanly. His command of four languages—English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu—enables him to communicate clearly and compassionately with the children and their advocates.
Propelled by his commitment to be a part of the solution, Sunny spends his time speaking and sharing his vision; reaching out and developing global partnerships; and guiding and growing the organization across time zones and school years to honor the mission of Yours Humanly: to empower the world’s most vulnerable children through access to quality education.
“People are often shy and uncomfortable and afraid they might not be able to accomplish what they’ve volunteered to do. I show them that we are all capable of great things—extraordinary measures—if we take the small steps that eventually lead to great strides. And that’s what we must do, together, because nobody’s going to hand it to us, nobody’s going to make it easy for us, and nobody’s going to carve out our journey except us.”
