Family Literacy Night—Mountain View Elementary

Yours Humanly was thrilled to introduce our Family Literacy Night project to Mountain View Elementary School this past November, when students, accompanied by their parents and siblings, attended the first of two literacy night events planned for the Concord, California, school. All enjoyed a variety of evening activities, including free book distributions (more than 325 books and five titles in English and Portuguese), literacy-themed crafts and word games, and a light buffet-style dinner. Principal Stacy Campbell was on hand to greet the students and their families, and made sure that every student went home with multiple books to keep as their own. Students who could not attend, received their books in class the next day. We believe that early literacy is the key to academic achievement, strong language skills, and lifelong learning. Our fun and festive Family Literacy nights support this belief and are designed to engage parents and guardians in their children’s educational journey.

The Yours Humanly Family Literacy Night project spans the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 school years, and will benefit more than 4,000 students in ten Concord elementary schools served by Mt. Diablo Unified School District. This project is made possible through our Coloring Futures initiative and by a generous grant from the City of Concord. View photos.
